What is the recommended IV for hangovers?
At ASAP IVs, we recommend our Hangover IV or ASAP Recovery IV for dehydration recovery or for bouncing back quickly from hangovers. Our IVs works extremely well for hangovers. Many of the negative symptoms from hangovers arise from dehydration (read our blog article here for more information) due to the suppression of ADH or anti-diuretic hormone, leading to increased urinary fluid loss and dehydration. This, on top of nausea/vomiting/diarrhea or just not feeling well, leads to a decreased oral fluid intake and fast dehydration symptoms.
While there is no “cure” for a hangover, our IV therapy is as good as it gets. The IV fluid is the fastest way to replete the body from dehydration. The medication additives help stall the nausea (from the anti-nausea additive Ondansetron or Zofran) and decrease body inflammation, myalgias. and aches/pains (from the anti-inflammation additive Ketorolac or Toradol). If you need a stepped up IV to recover even faster, we would recommend upgrading to the ASAP Recovery, which also has Magnesium and Vitamin B-12.
There are many methods being sold on the market for help preventing or curing hangovers. Most of these usually include electrolytes, sugar, anti-inflammatory medication, and rest. Hangover symptoms will always go away with these treatments and a tincture of time, but you may have to wait as much as 12-24 hours for them to self-resolve (and if you are travelling for a wedding, bachelor, bachelorette party, who has time for that?).
ASAP IVs makes hangover recovery convenient (either for you or your group!). Our nurse will come directly to you in your home, office, hotel, AirBnB, or wherever you need us for Mobile IV therapy. Our IV should help you feel back to normal within 30-45 minutes. This helps you feel better now instead of later!

Which Symptoms of Dehydration Can Be Treated With an IV Drip?
Dehydration, or the body state of having low circulating amounts of fluid, is very common in hangovers. It can occur in healthy individuals or as a consequence of severe acute medical illness. Not only can the state of dehydration be uncomfortable, but the lack of fluid in the body can lead to inadequate preload for the heart, decreased cardiac output, and poor perfusion of tissues. The following are possible results of dehydration from severe hangovers and how IV fluids can help:
Dry mouth and skin: as the body becomes increasingly dehydrated, the blood vessels to the skin and mucous membranes become tightened to conserve body water, leading to skin, lips, and mouth feeling dry. Fluid from an IV can improve these symptoms in 20-30 minutes and can result in dramatic improvement.
Dark urine: Poor perfusion of the kidneys or low circulating intravascular fluid can send a signal to the kidneys that they should conserve as much fluid as possible. The more dehydrated you are, the less urine output your kidneys will produced, and the more concentrated your urine will become. As the urine becomes more concentrated, its color becomes increasingly dark (or even non-existent if you are severely dehydrated). The fluid from an IV will help increase perfusion and fluids to the kidneys, increase urine output, and improve the coloring of urine.
Nausea/Vomiting: nausea can be debilitating, not to mention deadly when vomiting impacts your day to such an extent that you can’t hold down fluids. (Really need to help fight nausea/vomiting? Ask our team for a Single, Double, or Triple Vitamin-Add on to customize your IV to add in doses of anti-nausea medication to accelerate your recovery).
Body aches: Colds can leave your body feeling like you just ran a marathon or were hit by a truck. Fluid and anti-inflammatories can help reverse these symptoms.
Fainting/light headed: When the heart does not have enough fluid (decreased preload) the amount of blood which can be ejected per unit time is decreased (cardiac output). When dehydration is significant, changes in posture can lead to further decreases in preload and temporary reduction in cardiac output (this is called orthostatic hypotension). When this is severe, the drastic decrease in cardiac output can lead to low blood pressure and low perfusion of the brain, causing a feeling of light headedness, dizziness, or fainting/passing out (in medical speak this is called syncope). If you feel lightheaded when you change body positions (like going from laying down to sitting to standing) and you feel your heart rate increase, you will benefit from an IV and improved hydration.
Fatigue: Chronic dehydration can lead to persistently lowered cardiac output, leading to decreased tissue perfusion, and feelings of tiredness, fatigue, decreased energy, or listlessness.
