Black Friday Survival Guide

Whether you love it or leave it, it’s hard to ignore: Black Friday is just a few days away.

Black Friday, of course, refers to the mega sales stores and retailers offer the day after Thanksgiving in preparation for holiday shopping. Over the years, it has become a kind of Olympic-sport-level phenomenon that draws extreme behaviors like camping all night out at stores or racing through the aisles. There are definitely a wide array of opinions on this kind of seasonal consumerism, but luckily for us, there are now some alternatives that make shopping for loved ones both easy and affordable.

Keep reading for some tips on surviving Black Friday, and getting a leg up on your gift buying!

Black Friday

For those hardcore traditionalists, you are likely already gearing up for those early-morning doorbusters. Make a plan, pick out the best sales for those specific must-have items, and bring a friend to help pass the time in lines. I also recommend making arrangements for food and substance. Pack your big coffee cup, stock your purse with snacks, or–if you’re a pro–follow up your marathon shopping excursion with a IV appointment to recalibrate after both Thursday’s big dinner and Friday’s long day on your feet.

Small Business Saturday

The holiday season is one of the best times to shop locally and support the small businesses in your community. What could be more thoughtful than introducing a loved one to a business that you truly believe in? And, of course, with both social media and the internet, virtually every business has a digital storefront that makes them easily accessible.

Consider shopping small this week, and thinking of alternatives to Amazon, Target or other big box stores. (And hey, I know I’m biased–but your favorite California-and-Arizona-based IV therapy small business sells gift cards too!)

Cyber Monday

My personal favorite! What could be better than buying things for your favorite people, all from the comfort of your couch? As mentioned above, this could include both small businesses and your favorite chain stores! Bulk ordering can not only save you on shipping costs, but it’s more environmentally friendly. Brainstorm your list ahead of time, so you are prepared to get everything you need added to your cart!

Giving Tuesday

Finally, it is the season of giving, so I would be remiss if I didn’t close out with reminding you that Tuesday is devoted towards supporting your favorite charity and nonprofit organizations! Think of a group that does work you value, and consider making a contribution or sharing some of their resources via social media.
